“My wife is still using her 2020 M1 Air and it’s still as snappy as the day we got it, still works for all her use cases. Ah! my early 2015 13" Macbook pro died only few weeks back. I don't think any other laptop will last nearly 10 years (TBF I did replace the battery and speakers for $280 in 2020 t”— krisgenre · 2025 · HN

“I have a four year old MacBook that I am still happy with, but when LispWorks supports M1, I think that I will get the small M1 MacBook Pro - I can live with an extra pound of weight. “I’ve been using the original USB magic keyboard (same as in this link but without the number pad) and the original Bluetooth magic keyboard for about 12 years with no issues. Just got an M1 MacBook and it’s so nice to have a pretty consistent feel compared to my other keyboards.”— johnwalkr · 2021 · HN

“Same story with my AMD based T495. It was horrible. I also have an M1 MacBook Air now. I lost count the amount of times it’d panic or something would break when I needed it. The same laptop was rock solid running windows and my daughter has it now as her daily driver.”— hughrr · 2021 · HN

“iOS developer. I work from the spare bedroom in my house. Kitchen chair, Purple seat pad, 3' x 2' desk from World Market, M1 MacBook Pro, clip on ring light for meetings, Magic Mouse. I use the built-in microphone and webcam on my laptop.”— casralad · 2022 · HN

“The M1 MacBook Air is what you're looking for. It checks all those boxes and more (except for running Pop!_OS). If you could tell us what you like about Pop!_OS, we could advise if macOS fits your needs. You certainly don't need to buy into the rest of the ecosystem. I use a Mac ”— gandalfff · 2022 · HN

“> 2. Linux support: I use Linux as my OS of choice and I have no intention of using Windows/MacOS If there is any leeway here, I would seriously recommend switching. You cannot beat the M1 MacBooks and macOS is close enough to Linux anyway.”— dom96 · 2022 · HN
